The Floating World of Ukiyo-E: Shadows, Dreams, and Substance
Published in Hardcover by Harry N Abrams (September, 2001)
Average review score:

a first-rate addition to any Japanese art libraryWriting on Edo-period Japanese prints tends to be dominated by studies of single artists, print series by single artists, and chronological histories. Against this background, "The Floating World of Ukiyoe: Shadows, Dreams, and Substance," produced in conjunction with an exhibition, is a most welcome contribution. Here the emphasis is on showcasing a diverse and rarely seen collection--the woodblock prints and woodblock-printed books of the Library of Congress-- and on presenting expert essays that put the genre of "ukiyoe" in a broad aesthetic and social context. Added bonuses include such features as the "raking light" photograph on page 118, which illustrates the effects created by print embossing. "The Floating World" has been superbly designed by Abrams and well edited. It is worth noting too that the index has been prepared with exceptional care. Meanwhile, the bibliography--which covers 309 items and runs more than 20 pages--is a wonderful guide to woodblock-printed books in the Library of Congress: for scholars of Japanese art, culture, and publishing, this alone will justify acquisition of this book.

Published in Paperback by Dover Pubns (June, 1999)
Average review score:

Respighi's Great MasterpieceDover have published Ottorino Respighi's 'Fountains of Rome' in a clear and easy-to-read edition. It faithfully reproduces the original Respighi score rather than the edited versions of other publishiers. It is a true gem. Unfortunately, this is the only Respighi work currently published by Dover. It would be nice to see some more of his work published in this excellent and clear format. A great find.

Fritzi's Winter
Published in Hardcover by Atheneum (July, 1979)
Average review score:

great!!!!!This is a great book! It is short and sweet, but still, it is full of adventure and fun. The story is very enjoyable to read, even though it really doesn't teach one a lesson. Anyways, this book is a great "fun-read" and I strongly suggest reading it.

A true documentation of facts. While visiting Castlebar, County Mayo, compiling facts about the history of Ireland, I had the opportunity to meet Anne and her husband. This book is well written, in excellant form with accurate documentation of facts about a near extinction of the Fitzgerald clan. Each chapter holds the reader spellbound and with anxiety to get to the conclusion as soon as possible.

Going Part-Time: The Insider's Guide for Professional Women Who Want a Career and a Life
Published in Paperback by Avon (August, 1997)
Average review score:

Awesome reference book with real strategies that work! This is a great reference book for anyone considering part-time and even for those that are already doing it. I have worked both part-time and in a job-share and this topic is a passion of mine. I find the information in the book helpful, accurate, objective and well-balanced. It's presented in a positive fashion - not like an unrealisic fantasy - more like "if you want it bad enough you can get it, but you need to be persistent, open-minded and creative - and here are some strategies that really work." The book spans different industries and professions, which brings even more ideas to the table. The interviews and real life experiences are both inspiring and comforting.

Great Twentieth-Century Violin Concertos in Full Score
Published in Paperback by Dover Pubns (August, 1995)
Average review score:

A Great Presentation of Great 20th Century Violin ConcertosThis excellent set of scores, published by Dover, brings Dover's consummate work at a reasonable price. The editors do a marvelous job of staying true to the original text from which their reprints are derived. The print is clear, and the staves are nice and distinct. (The only concern maybe that too much erasing could permanently wipe off the ink on the page.) Instruments are clearly labled and numberings of key pts. in the concerti help a lot. I highly recommend this book to any music enthusiast, and especially to all violinists who are playing, or will play, any of these great violin concerti.

Excellent book on how to deal with griefJandy Chambers tells an honest and heartfelt account of her having lost five family members and how she dealt with the losses. Through reading her story you know she understands the depths of feelings.
